Dear colleagues and students
It is with heartfelt sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague Faheem Khan (55), a handyperson at the Forest Hill Residence in the Student Housing and Residence Life section of the Department of Student Affairs. He passed away in hospital on Friday, 5 June 2026 following a short illness.
Khan joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 18 June 2013.
Colleagues, team members, supporting stakeholders and contractors, and the Forest Hill students will remember Khan as a principled person with a strong work ethic. He was committed to his faith and family.
As a residential handyperson, Khan’s ability allowed him to get to the heart of issues quickly and professionally through his experience, technical knowledge and skills, as well as his interpersonal skills for authentic connections. He was a valued team member and leader, sharing practical and deeply insightful gems with both students and colleagues.
Khan is survived by his wife Faldielah; son Luqmaan; daughters Nasreen and Natheerah; sons-in-law Rameez and Zubair; and grandchildren Ashura, Muhammad, Eesa and Afraa. A memorial service date is yet to be confirmed.
The university has offered its support to the Khan family, and we convey our sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
