In remembrance: Mbasa Nompetsheni

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our third-year student, Mr Mbasa Nompetsheni (20), in an accident on Saturday, 9 May 2026.
Mr Nompetsheni was enrolled for a Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSci) in Psychology and Organisational Psychology at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
He will be remembered by fellow students and staff as a valued member of the residence and university community. His passing has deeply affected those who knew him, particularly peers within the residence environment.
Mr Nompetsheni is survived by his father Silulami; mother Nompumelelo; and brothers, Lilitha, Mzwekhaya and Imvana.
His funeral will take place on Saturday, 23 May 2026 at 405 G section in Phumlani location, kuGompo (formerly East London).
The university has reached out to offer support to the Nompetsheni family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew our late student.
