DHET Future Professors Programme (FPP): Call for
applications
UCT Closing Date: 25 February 2025, 16:00
The FPP programme prepares promising early and mid-career academics to advance to the level of professor across the disciplines. As such, the call seeks to identify the country’s most talented young academics to benefit from a structured and intense
programme aimed at accelerating their readiness for the professoriate. Academic staff are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.
Details on the criteria and application process can be found in the DHET FPP Phase 01
Cohort 4 Internal Call. An internal selection process will follow, where a maximum of five nominees will be submitted to the DHET for consideration. Successful candidates will commence the programme in January 2026.

EUI Doctoral Programmes: Call for applications

The European University Institute (EUI) offers one of the largest and most prestigious PhD programmes in the social sciences and humanities in Europe. EUI’s dynamic,
international academic community fosters cutting-edge research and offers unparalleled opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration.
The call for applications to doctoral programmes in Economics, History and Civilisation, Law, and Political & Social Sciences is now officially open. The EUI will provide up to 130 fully-funded, four-year scholarships for new early-stage
researchers for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Policy Leaders Fellowship (PLF) programme: Call for
applications

The Policy Leader Fellowship (PLF) at the EUI's Florence School of Transnational Governance (Florence STG) – part of the European University Institute (EUI) – is a residential
programme designed for professionals who aspire to make a meaningful impact in the world of policymaking. With participants hailing from diverse backgrounds such as politics, civil service, media, and non-governmental organisations, the fellowship
offers a unique platform for collaboration, innovation, and lasting change.
The fellows spend five to ten months at the school’s headquarters in Florence, Italy developing policy recommendations and practical solutions for the most pressing cross-border policy issues. The fellowships are fully-funded for the duration of the
stay.

Reminder: Public Health Innovation and Lifetime Achievement (PHILA) Award 2025: Call for nominations
Application deadline: 17 January 2025
PHILA reflects on the isiZulu word “phila,” meaning life. The Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) PHILA Awards seek to honour excellence and
commitment to public health in the country. PHASA wishes to acknowledge exceptional individuals whose:
- activities have been consistent with PHASA’s founding values of equity, integrity, social responsibility, caring, compassion, empathy and partnership; and whose
- purpose is aligned with its mission to provide leadership and a collective voice to improve health and health equity.
The awards do not carry any monetary value but serve to recognise and celebrate extraordinary contributions to public health in South Africa.
Three PHILA awards are awarded annually:

UCT laboratory notebooks for 2025: Now available
UCT laboratory notebooks are now available (ideally in blocks of 10) at a greatly subsidised price of R35 per copy, thanks to sponsorship by advertisers. Research Contracts & Innovation (RC&I) makes these
books, which comply with Good Lab Practice standards, for use by the research community. They are compliant with the requirements for proof of inventorship and intellectual property rights.

Reminder: UCT Energy Research Day: Call for contributions
Submission deadline: 31 January 2025
Researchers are invited to submit an abstract by 31 January 2025 for the UCT Energy Research Day, to be held on 28 March 2025.
The purpose of the event is to bring together postgraduate students, faculty, and researchers from across UCT to share insights, showcase research, and foster collaborations in energy-related fields. It is designed as a full-day event including
oral presentations, poster sessions, and networking breaks. We encourage a lively exchange of ideas to help build stronger connections among researchers.

Digital Scholar Series 2025 - Semester 1
The Digital Scholar Series returns this February. The Digital Library Services (DLS) department of UCT Libraries will be restarting these webinars showcasing digital practices and tools to enhance how you manage your research data.
Each week, on Wednesdays at 13:00, a topic such as data management planning; working with sensitive data; or collecting and capturing data, will be covered. These sessions are open to all at UCT, with a focus on postgraduate researchers and
staff.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) workshops
The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) is launching its in-person RCR workshop programme for the first semester of 2025. This workshop is designed to develop theoretical and practical knowledge by using a blended learning approach.
