Noticeboard

On the Research Announcement noticeboard, we share news and items of interest from the UCT Research Office.

UCT Knowledge Co-op available topics for socially responsive research

The UCT Knowledge Co-op engages community groups around the research they consider useful for their work. These topics are available for honours or master's dissertations and for academics' personal research.

The Co-op facilitates discussions to ensure the resulting proposal fits the requirements of both the community partner and UCT. Dissertations follow the usual departmental timeframe and process with support from the Co-op throughout.

The Co-op's website has just been updated to show more than 140 topics to choose from. See the available projects here.

You can request discipline-specific lists or more information from Roshan Sonday.

UCT laboratory notebooks available

UCT laboratory notebooks are available (ideally in blocks of 10) at a greatly subsidised price of R30 per copy thanks to sponsorship by advertisers. Research Contracts & Innovation (RC&I) makes these books, which comply with Good Lab Practice standards, for use by the research community. They are compliant with the requirements for proof of inventorship and intellectual property rights.

The primary purpose of the REC shall be to contribute towards ensuring that the research work of the CHE is always conducted in a responsible manner, with a commitment to the integrity of scholarly processes, as informed by research ethics.

The REC shall serve as an advisory structure with authority to review proposed research initiatives with potential risks of ethical issues, and advise on how such research initiatives can be carried out without compromising research ethics. The REC shall meet at least once every quarter, making it four times in a calendar year.

Instruct-ERIC 3rd international call launched jointly by MOSBRI, Instruct-ERIC and iNEXT-Discovery
Closes on 30 March 2023

International research and innovation initiatives are most effective to tackle global challenges and thus they have become a strategic priority for the European Union. In recent years, European research infrastructures such as Instruct-ERIC have been working to strengthen the collaboration with the global structural biology community, for instance through the organisation of highly successful international calls-for-proposals like those launched in 2019 and in 2021 together with iNEXT-Discovery and EU-LAC ResInfra.

Now, the molecular biophysics consortium MOSBRI joined this endeavour and together with Instruct-ERIC and iNEXT-Discovery they are launching a third international access call. This opened 15 January, and will close 30 March 2023.
