Reminder of SAMRC's special call for black African researchers to establish new EMUs
UCT intention-to-submit deadline: Monday, 19 July 2021
The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) has made an open call for applications from black African researchers for the establishment of new extramural research units (EMUs) to expand and complement the existing EMUs and address the
South Africa quadruple burden of disease and emerging global health challenges such as COVID-19.
The scope of work of the proposed EMUs must include research in one or more of the following areas within the focus areas listed above: basic laboratory research; clinical; biomedical; behavioural; public health; and implementation research.

New training available: Managing and sharing human research data
Online via SuccessFactors
The Office of Research Integrity (ORI), in collaboration with Digital Library Services and eResearch, has developed an online training module on "Managing and Sharing Human Research Data". This module forms part of the ORI's responsible
conduct of research (RCR) training programme. It is now available on SuccessFactors, UCT's Staff Learning Management System, as module 5. A solution to address student access to the RCR programme is
forthcoming.
The module addresses a range of topics including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA); UCT's Research Data Management Policy (RDMP); Data Management Plans (DMPs); ethical drivers of and challenges to data sharing; open access
principles; data protection, curation, storage and transfer and, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
