Call for proposal: Trans-Atlantic Platform (T-AP) Recovery, Renewal and Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World
UCT intention-to-submit (lead PI) deadline: Monday 14 June 2021 by midnight SAST
UCT internal deadline (SA PI): Monday 5 July 2021 by 09:00 SAST

The T-AP for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) is an unprecedented collaboration between humanities and social science research funders from South America, North America and Europe. T-AP aims to enhance the ability of funders, research organisations and researchers to engage in transnational dialogue and collaboration. It also works to identify common challenges and promote a culture of collaboration in SSH research by offering joint research calls in areas of strong potential for international collaboration.

The T-AP funding organisations and project management agencies have partnered to create a third joint research call focusing on Recovery, Renewal and Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World. Even though South Africa is currently not a T-AP full member, the National Research Foundation (NRF) has joined this call and will support South African researchers wishing to participate in the call.

Please see here for more detailed information about the call, the application requirements and process.

Open call for research: seeking research, innovation and technology to address the spread of COVID-19
RC&I internal deadline for submissions: Friday 28 May 2021

UCT’s Research Contracts & Innovation (RC&I) department invites UCT researchers, including postgraduates, to submit their COVID-19 related research or technologies. RC&I is administering a call by an international matchmaking platform aiming to create partnerships between universities and the global healthcare industry to address the current COVID-19 pandemic.

RC&I is keen to understand the level of innovation capacity UCT has to address this pandemic. It aims to identify funding opportunities and ensure that UCT’s intellectual property is protected and further developed.

Of particular interest are research and technologies in the areas of:
  • Long COVID (fundamental research, diagnostics, as well as treatment and rehabilitation)
  • Rapid diagnostics
  • Therapeutics (particularly those addressing autoimmune and autoantibodies responses)
  • Next-generation vaccines (particularly those focusing on T-cell and B-cell responses and those that avoid mutation hotspots)
  • Targeted drug delivery
  • Infection prevention and control in public settings
  • Consumer healthcare products
  • Methods and technologies to measure and predict long-term immunity
  • The impacts on society, psychology and the environment

3 June 2021, 12:00–13:00, via MS Teams

As an early career academic, associate professor Sudesh Sivarasu was always left with a ton of questions about teaching, research, and social responsiveness. Always wondering why these pillars must be distinct and asking why they can’t converge? This session explores whether we can mitigate the traditional academic barriers without compromising on academic quality and outcomes in both teaching and research. He explores if we can use academic networks, such as science academies, to gain visibility nationally and internationally.
