More than 100 academic and technical staff members of the University of Cape Town who successfully applied for ad hominem promotions in 2017 were honoured in a ceremony on Monday 12 March.

This group represents a diverse body of staff across all UCT faculties.

Their promotion is a celebration of their academic achievements and outstanding leadership in teaching and research.

It recognises each individual’s contribution towards achieving the university's 2020 vision, which includes being an engaged and research-intensive university.

Ad hominem promotions follow strict criteria, which go beyond performance in lecture halls or laboratories.
They also take into consideration each individual’s social responsiveness – be it in the form of community engagement, clinical services, health systems development or policy input.
