As the country moves to lockdown alert level 3 on Monday, 1 June, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is developing a framework to return staff and students to campus in a coordinated and phased approach, in line with guidelines provided by the National Department of Higher Education and Training.

The move to lockdown level 3 does not signal an automatic return to campus and staff who can continue to work from home are urged to do so.

No more than 33% of students will be permitted to return, and the university will contact those students who will be invited to return to campus and residences in due course.

This gradual and phased return will not impact on remote teaching and learning, which will continue until the end of term three.

Senior executives and managers in faculties and departments are also preparing for the phased return of staff.

Properties and Services is ensuring that the campus environment is prepared for this phased return.

The earliest it’s expected to commence is on 1 July.
