UCT Opera School graduate Noluvuyiso Vuvu Mpofu has been nominated for a Fleur du Cap award in the category Best Performance in an Opera – Female, for her role as Maria Stuarda in Maria Stuarda.
UCT Opera School graduate Noluvuyiso Vuvu Mpofu has been nominated for a Fleur du Cap award in the category Best Performance in an Opera – Female, for her role as Maria Stuarda in Maria Stuarda.

The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) SA College of Music is celebrating the nomination of 12 of its students, staff and alumni for recognition at the 54th Annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, to be announced on 10 March.

The nominees, in four different categories, are:

Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Musical or Music Theatre Show:

  • Conroy Scott as Ivan in Calling Us Home.

Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Musical or Music Theatre Show:

  • Lynelle Chrystal Kenned as Grace in Calling Us Home.

Best Performance in an Opera – Male:

  • Aubrey Lodewyk as Mandela 3 in Mandela Trilogy.
  • Bongani Justice Kubheka as Don Pasquale in Don Pasquale.
  • Lukhanyo Moyake as Justice in Mandela Trilogy.
  • Lunga Eric Hallam as Ernesto in Don Pasquale.
  • Makudu Mmphepere-keeje Senaoana as Robert Leicester in Maria Stuarda.

Best Performance in an Opera – Female:

  • Brittany Hope Smith as Adele in Der Fledermaus.
  • Brittany Hope Smith as Norina in Don Pasquale.
  • Janelle Visage as Elle in La Voix Humaine.
  • Violina Anguelov as Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda.
  • Noluvuyiso Vuvu Mpofu as Maria Stuarda in Maria Stuarda.

The annual awards, regarded as the most valued and prestigious in the South African performing arts industry, will be presented at a ceremony at the Artscape Opera House on Sunday, 10 March, at 17:30.
