Birthday greetings to Raymond Ackerman

It was a special occasion for eight members of UCT's Remember and Give (RAG) team who last week delivered a birthday cake and sang happy birthday to one of RAG's most loyal benefactors, businessman Raymond Ackerman (pictured middle).

The visit continued what has become an annual RAG tradition. In turn, Ackerman made a personal donation to SHAWCO (RAG is the fundraising arm of SHAWCO).

The organisation's endeavours are close to home for the South African business doyen: Ackerman's son, Gareth, was RAG chair in 1980 and his daughter, Suzanne, was RAG chair in 1985.

Shane van Staden (Project Manager, RAG Rookies) said: "It was an absolute honour to meet Mr Raymond Ackerman, and delightful to know that our poster proclaiming him to be 'our ray of sunshine' made him chuckle on his 83rd birthday!"
