Shebeen Boys do it for the good

For good cause: Mark Kritzinger (Shebeen Boys), Warren Taylor (Shebeen Boys), Morne du Plessi (chair of the Chris Burger-Petro Jackson Fund), Gale le Ross (general manager, Chris Burger-Petro Jackson Fund) and Gary Fouche (Shebeen Boys) hold a cheque donated by the UCT club to the Chris Burger-Petro Jackson Fund.

With a name like Shebeen Boys, a group of UCT students could easily be mistaken for a bunch of tipplers, and not a rugby team.

In fact, the students not only featured in the internal rugby league for the past five years, but they have also raised money '“ digging into their pockets - for the Chris Burger-Petro Jackson Fund, which raises awareness of debilitating injuries suffered in rugby, and supports injured players.

This year Shebeen Boys raised R1 700 towards the fund.

Club chairman Gary Fouche said; 'We believe in the spirit of the game, and would be devastated if any one of our players was unable to play rugby because of injury. Hopefully we can pledge a little more next year, as we believe it's a worthy cause and they need all the help they can get.'
